Nuclear forensics analysts use a principle called corroboration: a single anomalous detection may be a sensor error, but multiple independent sensors detecting consistent anomalies in the same event is strong evidence of a real phenomenon. In the Vela incident, three independent detection systems each recorded an anomaly consistent with a nuclear detonation.
